Cecilia Levy, Sweden

(b. 1963)

Cecilia Levys working material is fragile and perishable. Books from the beginning of the last century are used, taken apart, shredded into small pieces, and reassembled into new objects. Eggshell thin, yet remarkably steady. The story lives on, but in a different shape.

Recycling and environmental aspects are important factors. Levys work revolves around notions such as time, memory and transience.

Formerly a graphic designer and bookbinder, Levy graduated 1996 from the School of Design and Crafts in Gothenburg with an MFA in graphic design. She now works full time as a paper artist, and has participated in a number of group shows including Slow Art at Nationalmuseum in Stockholm 2012, Papper at Dalslands Konstmuseum 2013 and Modern craft at Konsthall Märsta 2015. Her work is represented in the collections of Nationalmuseum, Stockholm.
